Burlington Stores is Helping to Knock Out Heart Disease in Women!

For the seventh consecutive year, Burlington Stores - the national off-price retailer - and WomenHeart, teamed up to educate women nationwide about the importance of their heart health, as heart disease is the leading cause of death in women. Throughout the month of February (National Heart Month), and March, people could visit any Burlington store location nationwide to donate at checkout, to support WomenHeart and help further our mission.

This year, Vanessa Williams, Multi-Platnum Recording Artist, Award Winning Actress, and New York Times Best Selling Author, joined WomenHeart for our #KnockOutHeartDisease Campaign, as well as her daughter,  Jillian Hervey of Electro-Soul duo, LION BABE.

During the campaign, select Burlington stores across the country hosted  free heart health screening events, since knowing your numbers and understanding risk factors are the first steps in knocking out heart disease in women. Screenings included blood pressure, pulse, cholesterol, and BMI and offered free bilingual (English/Spanish) women’s heart health information and tips for living heart healthy.

In return, Burlington Stores donated $5, up to $25,000, to WomenHeart for each in-store screening. Altogether,we achieved the most generous donation in the history of the organization - more than $2.8 million raised by Burlington Stores.

“I am proud of the dedication and generosity demonstrated by our associates and our millions of customers nationwide. This year’s women’s heart health initiative was our most successful to date, and Burlington is pleased to support WomenHeart as they continue to educate women on the importance of their heart health,” said Tom Kingsbury, President, CEO and Chairman of Burlington Stores.

Over the past seven years, Burlington and its customers have raised $11.5 million to support WomenHeart and its educational programs for women living with or at risk of heart disease. These funds have also enabled the organization to continue to support and educate Hispanic women—a high-risk population for heart disease—through its Para la Mujer Hispana initiative and to help further the organization’s National Hospital Alliance initiative, reaching women recently diagnosed with heart disease in communities nationwide, providing them with critical life-saving resources and connecting them with local support groups.
